Romania's industrial landscape, particularly in regions like Galați and Hunedoara, maintains a strong reliance on carbon materials for steel and aluminum smelting. The local market currently faces a transition where traditional petroleum coking processes are being upgraded to meet stricter European Union environmental regulations regarding emissions and efficiency.
Geographically, Romania's position as a gateway to Southeast Europe makes it a strategic hub for the distribution of calcined petroleum coke. However, the fluctuating energy costs in the region have pushed local manufacturers to seek materials with higher electrical conductivity to reduce energy consumption during the smelting process.
Currently, there is a growing gap between the available low-grade coke and the increasing demand for specialized graphite petroleum coke. This shift is driven by the modernization of the Romanian chemical sector and the introduction of advanced electrode manufacturing technologies.
